SJRYC FLEET 2016

Louie Tremblay
Fleet Vice Commodore

Well here we are the end of October and we just officially closed the SJRYC Racing Fleet 2016 Season at the Cups and Flags Banquet on Saturday October 22, 2016.

The morning of the Banquet, the Annual “Foul Weather Open” was held at Pipestone Creek Golf Course in Eau Claire Michigan. There was quite a crowd for the 4 person scramble with Tee off for 18 holes at 10:30 AM. The weather was a little cool but the sun was bright the sky and course were beautiful with all of the colors of fall! A great time was had by all.
The overall winner was Stuart Boekeloo. Katy Powers received a bottle of wine for the longest drive while Eric Mallen and our Commodore Susan Greco each received a bottle of wine for the Men’s and Women’s closet ball to the hole.

The Banquet began at 6:00PM with Cocktails and the annual Trivia questions put together by our Fleet Captain and Chief Race Officer, Jim Schrager and Ken Zimmerman. It is something I look forward to at the Banquet as it is always a challenge and great fun.

A fine dinner put together for us by the SJRYC Staff of Lasagna, Green Beans, Salad and Bread and was enjoyed by everyone! The nice surprise was the Dessert made by Linda Mitchell of Little Beauty III! A Sailboat cake complete with Blue Water and White Puffy clouds! Delicious!

After dinner the awards were presented by Jim Schrager and Ken Zimmerman announcing the Section Winners for the JaM and Spinn Spring and Summer Series, Off Shore Series and JaM and Spinn Boat of the Year. Gifts were also given out to the Race Committee thanking them for all of their hard work and dedication throughout the year as well as the Fleet Captain. They are very much appreciated.

Let your creative side come out and play on the 10th of November, at 6pm. The South Bend Wine and Canvas artist will be on the third floor of the SJRYC waiting in the hopes of discovering the artistic talent in many of our members. I think they will find more then they expect. These art instructors will bring all the tools needed for you to paint and take home your very own creation. Like cooking, wine should be sipped while painting to make the experience truly pleasing for all involved. Reservations are necessary to determine the number of instructors that will be needed.  The cost is $45 for:  instruction, paints, canvas, wine and snacks. The comradery and fun are free!

Thursday, November 3, at 7 pm, on the third floor, the Book Club event will be the recently published novel, "Selah In The Storm" by Captain Ana Donovitch.

Some of you will know Ana as Ann Brainard. Ann grew up in the St. Joseph  area and learned to sail with some of our members at the Junior Foundation. The voyage that unfolds in Ana and her husband Captain Bob's lives will inspire with hope and humor and the realization that no matter what the circumstances, we always have a choice.  You can get your copy of Ana's book for $15.99 at the Club, while they last.

Read "Selah In The Storm", you'll enjoy every page! I did! As with all Book Clubs there will be a discussion, but our Book Club will be able to have the discussion lead by the author, Ana Donovitch.

Saturday, October 29th beginning at 1 pm, the SJRYC becomes a kids BEST nightmare!!

We will have treats in the parking lot and on each floor of the Club! Members are invited to volunteer, inside or out, to distribute treats to the children.  Those who would like to decorate their car or truck should arrive at the Club no later then 12:45.  A staff member will direct you to the area of the parking lot to be used for the "Trunk or Treat".  On  the 3rd floor, where the assembled Trick of Treaters can gather, a Halloween movie will be played while the kids enjoy their treats. Of course everyone should dress for the occasion.

Also, on Saturday October 29th at 6 pm other ghouls and goblins start arriving for a Halloween Party in the Keeper's Bar. Costumes are not required, but it will be a night for those who like to get in the spirit of things to shine. Steve Foresman is a Club favorite and will entertain from 7 until 11. Our treat is not only having Steve perform, he will also transform himself and become  David Bowie right in front of our eyes!! A trick you won't want to miss!
